I am constantly looking for ways to make organizing easier on organizers and when I met the folks of Action Network and Action Builder at Netroots Nation this year, I was super excited to learn more about the tools they are building. Martha Grant is the Director of Product Strategy at the nonprofit Action Network and Action Builder. She builds and designs digital tools for and with community organizers, especially within the labor movement.
SHOW NOTES
There were a few list serves that Martha mentioned at the top of the show, I’ve linked to them below, you may need to request access to enter them.
re:Power: New name with a long legacy, repower was previously Wellstone Action and absorbed into Wellstone Action was NOI (new organizing institute). Repower has a lot of great trainings and resources and Martha mentioned some of their data trainings as how she got started in data (back when it was under NOI).
Action Builder: Action builder was the toolset that Martha was talking about that was more about mapping relationships or could even potentially be used for power mapping.
Action Network: This is the toolset used more for recruitment and mobilization.
UPDATE
Also, in the wake of this show I received an email from Nancy Stalnaker at Data Diva, you might remember her from the Netroots Nation episode, with some extra info around data.
Nancy is the lead instructor for Generation Data which trains people in how to do data for campaigns. They are hoping to train roughly 150 people this cycle with trainings across the country. If you are interested in applying to be part of that program head over to GenerationData.org.
